Hi, I’m Sebastian. I’m an animal scientist who has built a career around cattle, sustainability, and the people who raise our food. The road here began in Honduras—and every chapter since has shaped how I see the work.

ROOTS
Honduras
Where cattle were never just cattle.
Agriculture has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in rural Honduras, close to cattle and to the communities whose lives depend on the land.
There, cattle represented far more than production. They were livelihood, culture, responsibility, and a source of possibility. That early perspective still shapes how I approach every scientific question and every conversation with a producer.
My path eventually carried me beyond Honduras, but the lesson I took with me has remained constant: progress only lasts when it works for the people expected to put it into practice.

THE EDUCATION
Across borders and disciplines
From the soil to the animal to the system.
Each stage of my education added a new way of seeing agriculture—and made the questions I wanted to answer both more technical and more human.
2019
Texas Tech University
M.S. in Animal Science
Graduate training in ruminant nutrition and the biology behind cattle performance, health, and efficient production.
2024
University of California, Davis
Ph.D. in Animal Biology
Research focused on practical strategies to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollutants from beef production systems.

THE PURPOSE
Cattle and sustainability
Science is most useful when it reaches the field.
My professional work sits at the intersection of ruminant nutrition, environmental sustainability, and the commercial realities of cattle production. I care about research, but I care just as much about whether an idea can survive outside the laboratory.
That means translating complex science into practical decisions, listening to the people doing the work, and finding solutions that improve environmental outcomes while creating real value for producers.
“The future of cattle production will not be built by choosing between productivity and stewardship. It will be built by making them work together.”
I hope to help move that conversation forward—in English and Spanish, from research settings to ranches and feedyards, and with respect for the people who know these systems best.

BEYOND THE WORK
The long road
There is more to the story than the work.
Outside the cattle industry, you will usually find me running, cycling, traveling, or carrying a camera. Endurance sports have taught me to respect slow progress, stay curious through discomfort, and keep moving when the finish line feels far away.
Travel and photography help me pay attention—to landscapes, to people, and to the small details that make a place memorable. Those interests are part of why this site exists: to make room for the ideas and experiences that do not fit neatly inside a professional biography.
